                      Romeo and Juliet Summary


Short Summary:

 An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her father's choice, the County Paris. Juliet praises night with sweet words so that night brings Juliet her charming hero, Romeo. She asks night to cut him into little stars if she should die. With this appeal, she wishes to immortalize her love for him. She is sure that the starlit sky then glows even richer than the shining beauty of the day.


Long Summary:

First Paragraph Summary:

The first extract speaks about the attraction Romeo had towards Juliet. To express the emotions of Romeo, the poet uses several comparison which helps the reader to picturize Romeo's admiration. He compares Juliet to a torch and feels that Juliet's beauty is capable of touching the torches to burn bright. He compares her to a rich jewel that loos bright in an Ethiope's ear (African ear) and he declares that her beauty was rare one. The worshipping attitude of Romeo is clearly highlighted in the last few verses of the extract. Romeo beings that essence of country love when he states that touching her hands make him blessed. He questions himself about the admiration he had towards Roseline and finally declares that he experience true love after he saw Juliet and he wanted to proceed with the relation once the dance gets over.


Second Paragraph Summary:

The second extracts expresses Juliet's willingness and eagerness to meet Romeo after the wedding night. She wants the night to approach soon as Romeo would meet Juliet only during the night because of Family enemity. She requests the night to approach soon and bring Romeo which is a day light in her life. She wants the night to convert itself into a Raven and bring Romeo on its back. Romeo would look like a fresh snow when he is flying towards Juliet on the Raven's back. Juliet uses several adjectives to describe the night and also compares it to the black brow giving an essence of human attributes. Juliet tries to immortalize Romeo by allowing the night to cut Romeo into small stars.
